Sources
The tables are compiled from published sources and cited row by row. No table is copied from one source, and nothing is taken from WatchBase or Chrono24.
The rule
A row without a source and a reviewer never goes live. Every live row carries at least one source with its URL, its publisher, its kind (official, collector, dealer, auction, press or forum) and the date it was read, plus the reviewer's name and the date of review. Where sources disagree, the row keeps both values and the result shows the disagreement; the site never picks one silently.
Right now the live tables hold 0 reviewed rows from 0 sources across 0 of 5 brands.
Publishers, by table
The publishers the tables are drafted from, with the reliability assigned to each. A publisher appears on a live row only once a reviewer has opened it on the day of review.
- Seiko and Grand Seiko serials
- Plus9Time; Quartzimodo; the Seiko FAQ (which publishes no rule).
- collector sources; they disagree on 0 versus O for October.
- Rolex serial ranges and prefixes
- Bob's Watches; BeckerTime; Bernard Watch; Rolex Forums threads on where the charts disagree.
- dealer charts with no sources of their own, conflicting at boundaries; ranges are compiled from three and cite all of them, never copied from one.
- Rolex references
- Wikipedia model tables; Phillips; Sotheby's; Antiquorum; Dorotheum; brand press material.
- Wikipedia as one cited source for facts (CC BY-SA 4.0), never the table wholesale; auction lots as anchor points.
- Omega serials
- ChronoMaddox; Bob's Omega chart; OmegaForums threads.
- collector and dealer tables, "very inexact" by their own account; ChronoMaddox is used under its non-commercial-use-with-credit terms and credited on every row that uses it.
- Omega references
- auction lots; Omega brand pages.
- the PIC numbers from auction lots and brand pages.
- Tudor
- Experts Watches and similar dealer tables.
- dealer tables, low reliability; conflicts are acknowledged in the rows.
- Patek Philippe
- Collectability dating guide.
- the guide's statements are cited as facts; its table is not reproduced.
- IWC
- VintageWatchstraps chart; IWC forum.
- collector.
- Breitling, Cartier and the later brands
- dealer guides; AP Chronicles (the official numbering explanation); ClassicWatch forum tables; auction lots.
- mixed.
- Reported issues
- OmegaForums; Rolex Forums; WatchUSeek; Luxury Bazaar and trade press on the Rolex 32xx amplitude reports; the Tudor MT5652 date-wheel threads; the Omega 8500 date threads; Perezcope for frankenwatch forensics.
- forum consensus with no manufacturer acknowledgement; every entry is attributed to its thread and dated.
Credits and what we never do
ChronoMaddox's Omega tables are used for non-commercial purposes with credit, as their terms ask; the credit sits here and on every row that draws on them. Wikipedia's model tables are used as one cited source for facts under CC BY-SA 4.0. The Collectability dating guide is cited, not reproduced.
Nothing is scraped, extracted or stored from WatchBase or Chrono24, both of which assert database rights. No dealer chart is copied as our table: every range row is compiled from at least two sources and cites all of them. No row comes from a source the reviewer did not open on the day of review. An unknown year renders as "not derivable" or "not in our table yet", never as an estimate the sources do not support.
Reviewers
No row is live yet, so no reviewer is named here yet. When rows go live, every one carries its reviewer's name and the date of review, and the names are listed here.
Licence and the data
The tables are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0; credit Sminto and keep the sources on the rows. The same rows with their sources are served as JSON from the API index, one document per table per brand.
